In less than a week Manchester voters will go to the polls and vote for members of the Board of Education that will lead our schools for the next 4 years. If the Republicans win, Mike Crockett, the senior Republican, becomes Chairman of the Board for the next three years. If you know Mike Crockett you already understand just how bad this would be for Manchester Public Schools. Crockett, you know the one that makes racial remarks about minority board members, does not have the skill set that is vital to ensuring the success of the next Superintendent of Schools.
There has never been a more critical election to the future of the Manchester Public Schools. If the Republicans, you know the same party that shut this country down earlier this month, and can’t seem to put the public interest ahead of their own, win this election and Mike Crockett becomes Chairman, our Manchester Public School System is in big trouble.
This is critical because it comes at a time when Manchester will be bringing on a new Superintendent of Schools. While Superintendent Designate Mr. Geary has been highly successful as the Principal of Manchester High School and has been an agent for positive change, he is still a brand new Superintendent and will need the guidance of an able Board Chair to ensure his success. While Mike Crockett has a bye on this election because his three year term started this year, he has not kept it a secret that he anticipates the Republicans winning a majority on the Board of Education and his being elected Chairman of the Board.

I would suggest that voters think about the big picture when casting your vote on Tuesday, our schools and our children are depending on you.
