MANCHESTER, CT — A project is in the works to remediate what state environmental officials have identified as a trouble spot on a parcel on Prospect Street in Manchester.

Town officials said that a Wetlands Permit application has been submitted for land at 42 Prospect St., so a 10-by-15-foot area can be fenced and capped.

The property is adjacent to Adelbrook Behavioral & Developmental Services, Inc.

The site is considered by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection to be "a significant environmental hazard" because of elevated levels of lead in the top 2 feet of soil.

The area is currently covered with asphalt and abuts a "designated inland wetland area," according to the plans. The cap will consist of approximately 2 feet of crushed stone. A chain-link fence, eight feet in height, will be installed around the perimeter of the area, according to the plans.

Prior to crossing an area of wetlands, wood matts will be placed over the wetlands crossing. Placement of the matts will not include any grading or adding of fill material and no vegetation will be cut, according to the plans.

The project will be conducted, as possible, during dry conditions, officials said.
