Special Weather Statement Issued For Hartford, Tolland Counties

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook and Special Weather Statement for northern Connecticut today.

Connecticut literally has a chance for thunderstorms for each of the next four days as the humidity is on the rise, which is triggering instability in the atmosphere. A Hazardous Weather Outlook and Special Weather Statement has been issued for Hartford and Tolland counties for the chance of strong storms today.

While no advisories have been posted for southern Connecticut on Wednesday, there is still a chance for thunderstorms here too, according to the National Weather Service.

In fact there are thunderstorms possible today, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The weather forecast looks quiet on Sunday. The chance for thunderstorms Thursday and Friday afternoon are just slight.

For northern Connecticut today, the National Weather Service states, “The combination of summer heat and humidity today will result in scattered thunderstorms this afternoon and early evening. A few of the storms may contain very heavy rainfall that could result in localized street and highway flooding in a short period of time. In addition, a few of these storms may produce gusty winds and small hail. The timeline for these storms will be from about noon to 8 pm. The area of greatest concern is across interior sections of Massachusetts and Connecticut, possibly into northern Rhode Island.

For southern Connecticut today, the weather service says, “Scattered showers and thunderstorms after 11am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 85. South wind 3 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
