Teen Shot, Another Hit By Vehicle After Manchester Incident

A man has been charged in connection with a Manchester shooting incident, police said.

MANCHESTER, CT — A Thursday night incident In Manchester left one teen with a gunshot wound and another hit by a vehicle, police said.

Just before 9 p.m. Thursday, Manchester officers were alerted to a 15-year-old boy who had sustained a gunshot wound to his upper right arm after shots were fired in the area of Dougherty and McKee streets, according to an incident report.

Officers discovered that multiple shots were fired in the area of Dougherty Street, according to a report.

While officers were at 16 McKee Street, a 17-year-old was hit by a vehicle driven by the suspected shooter near 69 McKee Street, according to a report. The teen suffered minor injuries and was taken to Connecticut Children's Medical Center in stable condition, police said.

Information gathered by investigators showed that several young people were walking on Dougherty Street when they were approached by a man who was brandishing a firearm. According to a report, the teens immediately turned and ran away from the man, who then fired several rounds in their direction.

One teen was hit by a bullet and another hit by the suspected shooter's car after he chased down the teens in his car, according to a report.

The suspect was identified as 44-year-old Jamie Garcia, who lived in the neighborhood, police said. Investigators located the gun, according to a report.

Garcia has been charged with:

  • First-degree assault
  • Three counts of criminal attempt at assault in the first degree
  • Second-degree assault
  • First-degree reckless endangerment
  • Five counts of risk of injury to a minor
  • Carrying a pistol without a permit
  • Evading responsibility

Garcia was held overnight on a $1 million bond and was to appear in Manchester Superior Court Friday, police said.
