MANCHESTER, CT — A driver on Interstate 291 in Manchester was charged with violating Connecticut's move-over law after she hit a tow truck driver who was tending to an incident, state police said.

The collision took place Friday at 9:43 in the morning, according to a crash report .

According to a crash report, a Volkswagen Jetta driven by a 51-year-old Vernon woman was traveling in the right lane of three on the westbound side of I-291 in Manchester.

The 54-year-old town truck driver was standing in the right lane wearing reflective gear with the emergency lights activated on his vehicle, according to a crash report.

The Jetta then hit the tow truck driver, state police said.

The driver of the Jetta was not hurt, but the town truck driver reported injuries to his back and was transported by EMS to Hartford Hospital, according to a crash report.

State police included a stern message with the the report.

"The Connecticut State Police urge motorists to use extra caution when approaching police, fire, EMS, Department of Transportation vehicles, and tow trucks - and their operators, who are working outside of their vehicles to keep Connecticut's highways safe," state police said. "As a reminder, Connecticut General Statute 14-283b requires drivers to slow down and move over for stationary emergency vehicles on the highway."
