“What Motivates You?”

While on vacation we had a few friends over and one of the topics became mortgages, one of my favorite topics. I’m always being asked, “How’s business?” More times than not, I will say, “There’s no shortage for demand for money”.

The conversation got around to, “Who is refinancing, not that rates have started to move up?” I couldn’t help share an experience I had that morning. We had a repair person at the house and while there I asked him how long he had been doing this work and he then asked me what I did for a living?

Once I told him I was in the mortgage business, he told me that was a sore subject for him and his wife. He told me about his last refinance experience and is scared to death to attempt to refinance again. He told me his current rate was 6.5%. After some more conversation I recommended he discuss the possibility of refinancing and gave him a business card.

An hour after he left I got a call from his wife. She told me that their mortgage balance was $380,000 and we set up a phone meeting for the following week.

My friend Bob asked me, “What keeps you motivated?” I thought about it for a few minutes and told him, two things keep me motivated:
1)  A desire to impact others in a positive way and make a difference in their lives.
2)  A desire to make housing be part of the American Dream. That anyone that wants to own a home can and I do everything possible for them to accomplish their goal.

So, what motivates you?
