Winter Team State Championship History: Manchester-Based Schools

MANCHESTER, CT — As practices for high school winter sports officially get underway across Connecticut Monday (girls basketball, ice hockey and wrestling) and Thursday (boys basketball, indoor track, boys swimming and girls gymnastics), hopes run high for all teams to achieve the ultimate goal: winning a league championship, and possibly a state title.

To help squads get into the championship mentality, here is a listing of the 23 CIAC winter team titles won by Manchester-based high schools in past years (* - indicates a co-op team).

Manchester

• girls indoor track (3) - Class L: 1997, 1996; State Open: 1996
• ice hockey (2) - Div. III: 2013*, 2008*
• girls basketball (2) - Class LL: 2005, 2003
• wrestling (2) - Class LL: 1996, 1995
• boys indoor track (1) - Class L: 1941
• boys basketball (1) - Class L: 1938

East Catholic

• boys basketball (5) - Class L: 2016, 1972, 1968; Class M: 2014, 1965
• boys indoor track (3) - Class S: 2008; Class M: 1976, 1970
• girls basketball (2) - Class M: 2004, 2002
• ice hockey (1) - Div. II: 1984

Manchester Trade (now Cheney Tech)

• boys basketball (1) - Class M: 1941
