Convergence—A Discussion of Diasporic Indian Art and Literature

On November 19 at 5 pm at UConn's Thomas J. Dodd Research Center, Konover Auditorium, a panel of experts will discuss the history, identity, and culture of the Indian diaspora, referencing Jhumpa Lahiri’s bestselling book The Namesake and the William Benton Museum’s current exhibition Convergence: Contemporary Art of India and the Diaspora
     Cathy Schlund-Vials, Professor of English and Director of the Asian American Studies Institute at UConn, will moderate the discussion with panelists Susan Bean, independent curator; Geetanjali Chanda, Senior Lecturer, Yale University; Sunanda Sanyal, Professor of Art History, Lesley University; and Annu Palakunnathu Matthew, Professor of Art, University of Rhode Island.
     At 4 pm — prior to the panel discussion, exhibition curator and UConn art professor Kathryn Myers will conduct a special gallery tour of the Convergence exhibition at the Benton.
     The William Benton Museum of Art is exhibiting Convergence through December 15, except for Nov 28-Dec 2 when the museum will be closed for Thanksgiving. The Benton is located on the Storrs campus of the University of Connecticut, 245 Glenbrook Road. www.benton.uconn.edu. 860.486.4520.
