DOC Employee Accused Of Impersonating Cop In Mansfield Road Incident

MANSFIELD, CT β€” A Connecticut Department of Correction employee already under suspension for an incident with an inmate is now facing charges that he impersonated a police officer in a roadside incident in Mansfield, according to an arrest warrant.

The warrant was served to 58-year-old Ashford resident David Michael Wright on June 15. It charged him with impersonating a police officer, second-degree threatening and second-degree breach of peace.

On June 14, state police received a complaint from a woman who said she was driving on Mansfield City Road near Crane Hill Road in Mansfield with a friend that day, according to the warrant. The two told state police they were at a stop sign the began to look for directions to a local farm, according to a warrant. They didn't want to proceed until they knew where they were going, according to the warrant.

Another vehicle approached the intersection and one of the two waved it past and the driver yelled an expletive as he "rolled by," according to the warrant.

The two caught up to the other vehicle and asked the driver what was wrong and he proceeded to display what appeared to be a police badge and threatened to deploy a Taser to a sensitive area, while "screaming," according to the warrant.

The man was identified as Wright.

Wright said he did show his Department of Correction badge but said he identified himself as a "correctional officer" and not a cop, according to the warrant.

Wright is currently under suspension for an incident with an inmate that took place about 90 days ago at the Brooklyn facility, according to the warrant.

Wright is due in court on June 27, according to an arrest report.
