E.O. Smith High School Runner Earns Trip to New England Championships

A Panther placed in the top 20 at the State Open cross country championships Friday to earn a berth in the six-state meet.

E.O. Smith High School will be represented at the New England Cross Country Championships next weekend, as a senior runner will compete based on his outstanding showing in Friday’s State Open at Wickham Park in Manchester.

Patrick Briody placed 16th in the field of 188 runners, covering the hilly 3.1 mile course in 16:24. He received an individual medal.

The top six teams and first 25 individuals at the State Open earned berths in the New Englands, to be run Saturday, Nov. 14 at Thetford Academy, just outside of White River Junction, VT.
