Neag School Hosts Husky Sport Community Celebration
The Neag School of Education’s “Husky Sport Program” is hosting a community celebration on Friday, June 10 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Hartford Public Library, 500 Main Street, Hartford. The event will recognize Husky Sport’s community partners and features VIPs, community members, Neag faculty/students, parents and children’s artwork from North End schools.
As part of the Neag School of Education’s Dept. of Kinesiology, Husky Sport students and staff work to positively engage with members of the Hartford, CT and UConn communitiesthrough the development of right relationships with youth, their adult family members, college students, and community organization collaborators. Through efforts in schools, after school and weekend programs, Husky Sport aims to be a continuous part of the lives of children and families in Hartford’s North End. Consistent engagement within Husky Sport’s growing community of role models, mentors and mentees, allows for a reciprocal process of personal and socialgrowth. This process occurs as Husky Sport looks to both reinforce and teachthe making of positive life choices in the following four areas: healthy nutrition, relevant and transferable life skills (e.g., respect, communication, leadership), exposure to varied sports and physical activities and academicopportunity and excellence.
