Go Ahead, Warm Up Your Car! It's Good For the Environment!

A recent Patch article warned us that warming up our cars on cold mornings is not good for the car and causes global warming. Really? Let’s examine this.

First, most global alarmists base their gloomy predictions on the Co2 premise. This is the idea that the more Co2 emitted by us and our things, the warmer the earth will become. Well, how big really is this whole thing, what percent of the atmosphere is made up of this C02? The answer is not even 1! In fact, according to NASA it is 0.0360%. This is not very much and remember, this is in percent which translates into 0.00036 of the troposphere! The number gets even smaller when you multiply into this the fact that manmade C02 accounts for only about 3% of the TOTAL!... (So, 97% of C02 is naturally occuring!)

Now let’s do the math together; 3% of .036% equals... virtually nothing.

Let’s not even talk about NASA’s new data suggesting that C02 actually COOLS the environment by reflecting the suns rays away from the earth!

For argument’s sake, let’s assume the alarmists are right and that warming your car adds significant amounts of harmful C02 to the air (which by the way, vegetation needs and thrives on) and is a significant cause of global warming. Well, this must mean that ALL cars contribute C02, right? And this must mean that those of us (and our families) who own and operate multiple cars, bigger cars, SUVs, RVs, quads, boats, go on cruises on large ships or vacations on jets, have big houses that need extra resources to be heated and cooled and heated swimming pools are more guilty than any poor modest guy with only one small house who loves warming up his one car. Doesn’t this guy have a rightful gripe with you, the conscientious environmentalist who likes to fly on jets, take cruises, have a large or multiple houses, drive SUVs or live in the country but work in the city? Of course he does. In fact if the only car he owns is a gas guzzling smoke blowing Chrysler with a large big block V8 engine in it, he contributes to global warming much less than most. Only hypocrites and flimflammers like the overeating Al Gore tell others that they should ride their bikes to work while he lives in multiple mansions with heated swimming pools and flies around the globe non stop in fuel guzzling and polluting jets.

The funniest thing about this whole issue is the fact that the environmental alarmist geniuses NEVER ever acknowledge the biggest single contributor to global warming and/or cooling bar any other, the sun. This is only because they can’t find a way to use this issue to scold us, to make us feel guilty, to tax us with it, or to figure out how to grab more power from it. Think about it, what university would fund research global warming studies that show that the sun makes the earth hot?

So, in the end why is warming up your car on very cold mornings a GOOD thing to do? Because it makes the inside of your car nice and cozy and it defrosts your windshield and lets you see where you are going so you don’t crash into a tree, and that’s real good for the environment.
