Happenings Down The Hill: Adult Soccer League Finals

The Windham Soccer League’s season ended recently (Saturday, September 27) with the finals under the lights at Windham High School. Brasil Warriors, the regular season leaders, faced off versus San Martin FC, which had advanced with two playoff wins.
Brasil prevailed by a 2 - 0, following a scoreless and tense first half. Goals were scored by Alfredo Rodriguez at 65:00 and Alejandro Gonzalez at 84:20.
The league finals culminated a season in which seven teams played weekly starting in May at Willimantic’s Recreation Park. Most players hail from Willimantic, with a few coming from other area towns. Although adult men’s soccer doesn’t garner as much attention as softball or basketball, the vibrancy of the league (now in its second decade) and passion of the players make Saturdays and Sundays in the park a futbol festival. In fact, almost 300 spectators showed for the finals.
The members of the Brasil Warriors are as follows: Manny Gonzalez, Jared Johnson, Roberto Gonzalez, Hector Gonzalez, Gerardo Reyes, Carlos Garcia, Jose Benitez, Hector Marquina, Alejandro Gonzalez, Antonio Lopez, Juan Calixto, Horacio Pantoja, Andres Gonzalez, Oscar Garcia, Christian Garcia, Gerardo Martinez, and Luis Lopez.
