On Saturday, November 30, Downtown Willimantic will join businesses, communities, and shoppers all over the country who will NOT head to malls and big box stores, but who will instead patronize local businesses and celebrate our nation's small towns and cities. Locally, this initiative is being promoted by Willimantic's major Willi-phile (and this year's Cupid) Karen Gilbransen of Thread City Development.

[Willimantic, CT.][November 20, 2013] – Thread City Development, Willimantic downtown’s revitalization program today announced its endorsement of and participation in the fourth annual Small Business Saturday on November 30th. Created by American Express in 2010, Small Business Saturday is a day dedicated to supporting small businesses nationwide. Celebrated every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, the day has given small businesses across the country a huge boost.
Recognizing the importance of supporting small independently-owned businesses in our community, Thread City Development is pleased to announce our support for Small Business Saturday and its Neighborhood Champion program. The community is invited to Shop Small in Willimantic Downtown on November 30th. The event takes place from 10am to 5pm at over 30 participating stores offering sales, discounts, promotions and entertainment for shoppers. Stop by to support small businesses and pick up some Shop Small giveaways. Event details include members of the Shaboo All Stars joining local favorite Bruce John for a few songs to give you a little taste of their evening performance at The Lucky Frog. Also not to be missed is a community caroling event, taking place on Main Street that afternoon.
November 30th marks the fourth annual Small Business Saturday, a day to support the local businesses that create jobs, boost the economy and preserve neighborhoods around the country. Small Business Saturday was created in 2010 in response to small business owners’ most pressing need: more customers.
