Hermine Continues to Impact The Weather for Storrs and Mansfield

Hermine is the Tropical Storm that just won’t go away.

The National Weather Service has continued a “Tropical Storm Warning” Tuesday for coastal Connecticut in New Haven, Middlesex, and New London counties. The major concern is winds that continue to gust near 40 mph on the coast and have led to isolated power outages Tuesday morning.

The massive storm is about 150 miles east-southeast of New York City or about 100 miles south of Montauk Point, NY, on the eastern tip of Long Island.

It’s moving very slowly and will still impact Connecticut Tuesday with possibly minor coastal flooding and gusty winds.

At the coast, “sustained tropical storm force winds are expected,” the National Weather Service states. Inland, the wind gusts will be reduced but still noticeable.

As of 9 a.m. there are about 1,000 Connecticut residents without power including 300 in Ledyard. There are 150 outages in Waterford and 100 in Windsor and Vernon.

NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan said “As Hermine gradually weakens today we'll see a breeze and a few scattered showers but that's about it. Last night winds gusted up to 50 mph in New London County but have since diminished.”

WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons said, “Windy for much of the day today! Lots of clouds a little bit of sun also the risk of a quick passing shower in a few towns. I do expect some wind around tomorrow morning before this whole thing gets out of here by Thursday.”

And the next big weather story is the expected heat wave which arrives in time by Friday and headed into the weekend.

Southern Connecticut:

Tuesday: At the coast, 40 percent chance of showers, cloudy, 76, with winds gusting between 28-33 mph. Inland, the wind gusts will be 18-28 mph.

Wednesday: 30 percent chance of showers, cloudy, high 82. Winds finally starting to subside to between 9-14 mph.

Thursday: Partly sunny, and temps near 85. Chance of a thunderstorm.

Friday: Mostly sunny, high near 87.

Saturday and Sunday: Mostly sunny and temps in the low to mid 80s.

Hartford and Tolland counties:

Tuesday: Chance of showers, mostly cloudy, high near 75. Winds between 10-13 mph.

Wednesday: Chance of showers, mainly after 5 p.m. Mostly cloudy, high near 81.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, warmer, temps in the upper 80s.

Friday: Mostly sunny, high near 88.

Saturday and Sunday: Mostly sunny on Saturday a high near 90 and a bit cooler on Sunday with temps in the low 80s.
