Mansfield Bank Robbery Suspect Tracked Down At Shelter In Michigan

A Mansfield bank robbery suspect is back in Tolland County to face charges.

MANSFIELD, CT — A suspect in an Aug. 4 bank robbery in Mansfield has been brought back to Connecticut from Michigan to face charges.

With the assistance of Michigan State Police Fugitive Task Force, and the United States Secret Service, Robert Doyle was tracked down at a homeless shelter in Ann Arbor, where he was detained and subsequently extradited back to Connecticut, state police said.

  • Second-degree robbery
  • Third-Degree Larceny
  • Second-degree breach of peace

Doyle was held on a court-set bond of $250,000, transferred to the Hartford Correctional Center overnight and was appear in Rockville Superior Court Friday, state police said.

The case dates back to Aug. 4. At 11:27 a.m. that day, Troop C received a report of a bank robbery at the Key Bank branch on Storrs Road in Mansfield. No injuries were reported and responding investigators learned that no weapon had been displayed.

A man left the area in an older model maroon Jeep Grand Cherokee, according to an incident report.

Detectives obtained images of the suspect and the Jeep, which were shared with the public on social media and in the media itself. In response, members of the public reached out to investigators and state police were able to identify Doyle, who is a former Plainfield resident.

Detectives then applied for and were granted an extraditable arrest warrant, state police said.
