Mansfield Obituary: Edna Smith, 99

Edna Smith, 99, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2016.

She was born in Willimantic on September 9, 1916 to George H. and Edith (McTott) Arnold. Edna was a graduate of Willimantic Public Schools and worked for Southern New England Telephone for 36 years. She was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers.

In 1938, she married John H. Smith who predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her parents, her son John E. Smith; brothers Edward and George; sister Druscilla Eldredge; and son-in-law Terrance Anthony. Edna is survived by her daughter Jacqueline Anthony of Mansfield; daughter-in-law Carol L. Smith of Mansfield; two grandsons, John H. Smith and his wife Jill of New Hampshire and Jeffrey E. Smith of Florida; as well as two great-grandsons Alex M. and Tyler W.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Mansfield Center Nursing and Rehabilitation for their compassion and professionalism during the five years Edna lived there.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Mansfield Center Nursing and Rehabilitation recreation program (100 Warren Circle, Storrs, CT 06268) or to the Hartford Healthcare Hospice Program.

A Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at 1:00pm at the New Willimantic Cemetery on Rte. 32.
