Mansfield School Superintendent Quits Amid Expense Reimbursement Controversy

Superintendent Frank Baruzzi reportedly submitted his resignation to the Board of Ed.

Mansfield School Superintendent Frank Baruzzi, who has been on leave since last summer because of a controversy over travel expenses, has quit, according to a report.

Baruzzi submitted his resignation, effective Friday, Jan. 23, at a board of education meeting Tuesday night, Board of Education Chairman Randy Walikonis told NBC Connecticut.

Baruzzi has been on leave since questions about his travel expenses surfaced in July. Baruzzi, who receives a $151,000 annual salary, had received $50,000 in gas mileage reimbursement from the district over a two-year period.

In an email to parents Tuesday night, Walikonis said forensic auditors examined Baruzzi’s travel expenses and β€œfound no sufficient business justification for certain reimbursements requested by and paid to the Superintendent of Schools,” according to the NBC Connecticut report that can be found here.
