Mansfield Voters Ready For Budget Referendum

MANSFIELD, CT — Pursuant to the town charter, Mansfield will conduct a Budget Referendum for the FY2025/2026 budget on Tuesday, June 17.

The combined proposed budget for general government, the Mansfield Board of Education, and contribution to the Region 19 school district increased by $2,337,874 — from $65,909,082 to $68,246,956.

That's a 3.5 percent increase.

The proposed town of Mansfield budget for fiscal year 2025/26, including the Mansfield Board of Education, is $56,093,350, a 4.1 percent increase over the current fiscal year.

The proposed general government portion of the budget has increased by $1,399,236, from $29,089,114 to $30,488,350 or by 4.8 percent. The increase is reflective of an increase of $50,000 for capital projects, an increase of $100,000 for debt contribution and an increase of $1,249,236 for operating expenses. A $438,270 year-over-year increase in operating expenses is a reflection of the proposed creation of five new full-time positions and two new part-time positions in the areas of public safety, public works, building, library, planning and human services.

The proposed Mansfield Board of Education portion of the budget has increased by $803,120 — from $24,801,880 to $25,605,000 or by 3.2 percent.

The proposed Region 19 Board of Education proportionate share for the Town of Mansfield has increased by $135,518, from $12,018,088 to $12,153,606.

The total tax rate needed to fund both the town of Mansfield budget and the Region 19 budget (Mansfield’s General Fund share) is 20.00 mills for personal property and real estate, a 10.52 mill decrease from fiscal year 2024/25.

The Grand List has increased by $573,453,139, from $1,204,445,271 to $1,777,898,410 or by 47.61 percent. Personal Property had an increase of 17.82 percent or $20,005,543. Real Estate saw an increase of 56.53 percent or $557,314,796 and Motor Vehicles saw a decrease of (3.64) percent or ($3,867,200).

Under the proposal, the median homeowner would have an increase of $284 in annual taxes.

The vote is scheduled for voters in all districts at one location — the Audrey P. Beck Municipal Building, Town Council Chamber, 4 South Eagleville Road.

On Tuesday, the polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Voters are required to provide some form of identification at check-in at the polling location such as a driver’s license, passport, or credit card with a name and signature. In addition to Mansfield registered voters, owners of property in Mansfield that is valued at $1,000 or more who are also U.S. citizens 18 years old and older may also vote at the budget referendum.
