In Memoriam: Adele Welles

The Mansfield resident passed away Jan. 26, at the age of 94.

Adele (Costa) Welles, 94, of Mansfield, beloved wife of the late Arthur Charles Welles, passed away on January 26, 2016.

She was born on December 27, 1921 in Monsanto, Portugal, the daughter of the late Adolfo A. Costa and Ana (Madruga) Costa.

At the age of ten she moved to the United States. The remainder of her life was spent in Connecticut and Cape Cod, MA.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother; as well as an accomplished gardener and quilter.

She is survived by five children. Margaret Blake and her husband Curt, Charles Welles and his wife Michele, Catherine Welles Morisky and her husband Richard, Michael Welles and his wife, Micky and Diane Welles and her husband Dennis Dorman. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her youngest daughter Jacqueline Welles, wife of Jeffrey Voss.

Adele’s family will receive relatives and friends Monday February 1, from 10 am to 11 am at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 am at St. Joseph Church, Willimantic; with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made St. Jude’s Children Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
