NEAG SCHOOL OF EDUCATION HOSTS FILM SCREENING AND PANEL DISCUSSION OF "STOLEN EDUCATION"

The Neag School of Education at UConn is hosting a free film screening of the 2013 documentary “Stolen Education” on Wednesday, Oct. 28 from 6-8 p.m. at the Laurel Hall, Room 101 on the Storrs Campus. The film will be followed by a panel discussion that will explore racism, segregation, the Mexican-American contribution to the civil-rights movements, and more. The screening will be followed immediately by a discussion led by our panel moderator Mark Kohan Ph.D. (assistant clinical professor, Neag School of Education).

Guest panelists include:

· Cathy Schlund-Vials, director of UConn’s Asian and Asian American Studies Institute and chair of the UConn Reads program. The UConn Reads program, the University’s common reading program, focuses this year on the theme of race in America.

· Richard Gonzalez, director of the Educational Leadership Preparation Programs in the Neag School of Education and Department of Educational Leadership faculty member

· Erica Fernández, Department of Educational Leadership faculty and mentee of Stolen Education executive producer and co-writer Dr. Enrique Alemán, professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio

· Martha Perez-Pedemonti,’08 (CLAS), ’12 JD, staff attorney at Sanctuary for Families in New York City and member of the New York City Bar Association’s Committee on Women in the Legal Profession

· Sarah Hodge ’15 (ED), ’16 MA, 5th year student in the Neag School of Education Integrated Bachelor’s/Master’s (IB/M) Program
