Rhoades Shows Paintings at Babbidge Library

Paintings by Mansfield resident Scott Rhoades, who recently retired from a 35-year art education career in the Coventry, CT school system, are featured in the UConn Libraries winter art exhibits starting Nov. 4 and running through February 21, 2014.

Rhoades’ exhibit, “Places and Faces:  Near and Far,” depicts familiar UConn figures, as well as notable non-UConn figures, Mansfield and Coventry historical buildings, and nature scenes.  This is the first formal public show of his work.

Rhoades graduated from Eastern Connecticut State University and earned his Master’s degree in Art Education from Central Connecticut State University.

Other exhibits include “Journeys Home:  Selections from the Malka Penn Collection,” children’s books focusing on human rights from UConn’s Archives & Special Collections and “Autumn Through Caribbean Eyes,” paintings by Caribbean-born artist Stanwyck.

An opening reception will take place on Sunday, November 17, from 2 – 4 p.m. in Homer Babbidge Library.  The event is free and open to the public.
