River/Sea Installation at VCAC - Special Invitation!

Come to the Vernon Community Arts Center today from 1-5 PM to watch the installation of our newest exhibit, River/Sea. Artist-in-Residence Barbara Hocker will be creating works on and of paper that explore her thoughts about water as both subject matter and metaphor. Traces of a flood, memories of a childhood by the sea, and the trauma of oil spills are the artist's inspiration for a series of handmade books, two room-sized installations, and other works. Hocker begins with digital images of water from Connecticut waterways and combines them with other water-based media, encaustic, and video to produce ethereal yet intimate works of art. Through the Static and Distance is a room-sized installation of hanging paper/encaustic panels - viewers can travel into the center of the sculpture and back out again. This exhibition is made possible through a Creation of New Work Initiative Grant from The Edward C. and Ann T. Roberts Foundation.

The gallery is open through Friday, June 20, 1-5 PM. Beginning June 26, gallery hours are Thursday-Sunday, 1-5 PM. River/Sea will be on view until September 21. Join us for an Opening Reception, Sunday June 22, from 1-4 PM, with music provided by Lindsey Fyfe. Call 860-871-8222 or visit vernonarts.org for information. Visit our Artists Cooperative Gift Shop featuring unique creations by local artisans and crafters - open during gallery hours.
