A Three-Peat for UConn Lady Huskies Basketball Team
By a score of 63-53, UConn defeats Notre Dame … again!

It was a three-peat for the University of Connecticut Women’s Basketball team as they gathered steam in the second half and by a score of 63 to 53, beat Notre Dame for their third consecutive NCAA title.
In the hard-fought game, Notre Dame proved a difficult foe as UConn didn’t tally the 40- to 50-point-plus drubbing of their opponent.
For Coach Geno Auriemma, Tuesday night’s victory marked the third straight NCAA championship UConn has won under his tutelage. The game was the second time that UConn defeated Notre Dame, led by coach Muffet McGraw.

The game was tight was right from the start. But with about four minutes to play UConn gained the poise and momentum they’ve had throughout their 37-1 season, to bring home the title.
The Huskies gained and maintained a double-digit lead with about four minutes left in the game played in Tampa.

With less than a minute left in the game, Breanna Stewart left the game with UConn having a 10-point lead. Stewart was named the most valuable player in the Final Four for the third straight year.
And Auriemma won his 10th NCAA championship with 63-53 final score.
In a post-game interview, Auriemma said he couldn’t be more proud of the team. “This team just kept working and working and working. They deserve everything they have,” Auriemma said.
When asked about the comparison to UCLA’s former coach John Wooden’s NCAA championship record, Auriemma said, “It’s a very significant number and people want to talk about it. … I’m not John Wooden….I just think what we’ve done in the past 20 years has been pretty remarkable.”
