Troopers Find Freezer Bag of Coke in a Shoe Box in Eastern Connecticut

The bust began with a traffic stop, state police said.

KILLINGLY, CT — State police have intercepted a freezer bag full of cocaine in eastern Connecticut.

On Tuesday at about 1 p.m., troopers from Troop D were conducting a "narcotic interdiction" in Killingly, according to a report.

While positioned on Broad Street, a 2005 Subaru Forester was observed without a front license plate and the car was stopped, according to a report.

While speaking to the driver, troopers noticed he was "extremely nervous," and as troopers continued to speak with him, they determined that he had drugs in the car,.

The driver was later identified as Adrian Broughton, 37, of Putnam.

Search consent was granted and as troopers looked through the vehicle, they located a large freezer bag containing approximately 530 grams — or a half-kilogram — of powdered cocaine, packaged for sale, hidden inside a shoe box, according to a report.

Troopers also learned that Broughton was operating a vehicle with a suspended operator's license and had two active arrest warrants for failure to appear in court, according to a report

He was arrested in consultation with the Troop D Quality of Life Task Force, and a sergeant assigned to the Statewide Narcotics Task Force and charged with cocaine possession, possession of cocaine with the intent to sell, second-degree failure to appear, operating a motor vehicle while under suspension and failure to display a front plate, state police said.

Broughton was held on a $53,000 cash/surety bond and was to appear at Danielson Superior Court on Wednesday, according to a report.
