UConn Mac 'n' Cheese Student Apologizes via You Tube: WATCH

Some might say what a difference a week makes.

In a video posted on YouTube, a week after his profanity-laced tirade went viral with millions of views, the University of Connecticut student from Long Island, NY, has apologized for his drunken behavior.

Luke Gatti, 19, of Bayville, NY, was filmed in a nine-minute video on Oct. 4 in a late-night rant berating and then poking and shoving the manager of an on-campus restaurant who refused to serve the student bacon, jalapeño-laced mac ‘n’ cheese because he brought a bottle of alcohol into the campus facility.

And on Oct. 11, Gatti apparently posted his own video apologizing for his behavior that garnered unprecedented — and probably unwanted attention — to the school in Storrs.

In a two-and-a-half minute video, Gatti said, “I apologize to all of the staff, especially the manager. He was just doing his job. He gave me so many chances to walk away and I didn’t listen to him. I was a complete ***hole.”

Gatti was arrested on charges of breach of peace and criminal trespass after he repeatedly poked and shoved the manager. He had been arrested twice before over confrontations with police.

In one instance, Gatti was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct after throwing a “temper tantrum” when he was told to move out of the street by police, the blog Only in the Republic of Amherst reported.

According to the police report, Gatti “raised his left hand in a ‘Hook-em-horns-‘ like gesture and shouted f**k you n****r” at an officer. Police said he then yelled “I said f*** you, so f*** you” at the officer and “began to flail his arms and jump up and down.” He was ordered to pay a $100 fine and put on probation for four months.

In another instance, Gatti allegedly started yelling and causing a scene when police were called to a loud party, according to Amherst, according MassLive.com. When he was arrested brought to the station, he started assaulting the police officer, according to the report. The outcome of that case wasn’t immediately available.

In the most recent case, the cafeteria manager can be heard telling Gatti that he wouldn’t be served because he was drunk. “You can’t come in here with an open bottle of booze. Think about it,” the manager said. Gatti dared the manager to call police … who are seen arriving about eight minutes into the video.

Gatti admitted in the latest YouTube video, “at the time, to say the least, I was very intoxicated. When I watched the video a few days later, I couldn’t even believe it was me in it.” He added, “I’m thinking what the hell is wrong with me. This isn’t what I’m all about. I am ashamed.”

In the meantime, a pair of UConn Students have initiated a GoFundMe drive to raise money to treat the berated Union Street Market staff to a dinner at Geno’s Grille.

Gatti has not responded to a Patch request for comment.
