UConn Officials: University Is Not Behind Tolland Village Project

A statement was Issued Tuesday.

STORRS, CT - University of Connecticut officials on Tuesday said they have no direct involvement in any project that could lead to a hotel complex being developed down Route 195 in Tolland.

"This is not a UConn project and we have not taken any stance on any potential hotel development in Tolland," UConn officials said on a statement given to Patch.

The statement was rendered "to clear up some false information" that UConn has a hand in a hotel potentially coming to the Tolland Village area at the Interstate-84 interchange with Route 195.

UConn officials also said that the Nathan Hale Inn would not be converted into a full-time dorm until another hotel option is available int he area. When the university bought the hotel last year, that was a stipulation. UConn eventually wants to turn Nathan Hale into a dorm. It is a combination hotel-dorm now.

A developer - NE Real Estate - is proposing zoning amendments to the Tolland Village area. Concepts have been bantered about for more than a decade, but NE Real Estate seems serious about setting things up to at least develop the area behind Papa T's, Subway and the Electric Blue, yet include both sides of Route 195.
