UConn Reports 58 COVID-19 Cases

The University of Connecticut reported that there are 58 current cases on campus, up from 42 last week.

STORRS, CT — The University of Connecticut's current on-campus COVID-19 case count is up to 58, according to a statement from the school. The university had reported 42 cases Thursday and ordered a dorm to be quarantined.

Six new positive cases were added over the weekend: three on Saturday and three on Sunday. While the three new Saturday cases are geographically separate on campus, there are indications they are connected to one another, according to the university.

Two of the three reported on Sunday are also connected to known positives. One is still being investigated.

Additional information:

  • Note that the numbers are dynamic, adjusting to reflect any new cases each day while at the same time decreasing as other students recover or leave campus to isolate at home.
  • UConn has recorded a cumulative figure of 75 positive residential student cases since testing began Aug. 14 before they moved into their residence halls.
  • Of the 75 cumulative cases, 58 are the current cases that are in isolation; 16 have recovered and left isolation, and the remainder returned home for their isolation periods (note that a student who isolates at home must test negative before returning to campus, at which time they become part of the “recovered” category).
  • UConn continues to test and retest residential students who are quarantined because they may have been in contact with others who later tested positive. The university is also testing randomly selected students on campus as part of monitoring community health.
  • The university also is aware of 17 cases among off-campus Storrs students who were tested because they will be visiting campus for classes, and two positive cases (no change) among faculty/staff who expect to be working regularly on campus.
  • The on-campus positive rate at UConn Storrs is currently 1.16 percent among residential students. UConn will continue to test students multiple times, including those currently in isolation; others who might have had contact with them; and students in the general population.
  • No positives have been reported among students in UConn Stamford housing. Two UConn Stamford commuter students have reported positive test results (no change). UConn has received zero positive test results involving students at the Hartford, Waterbury and Avery Point campuses.
