UConn Sends Out Traffic Advisory As Students Begin To Move Out, Get Ready To Graduate

Alumni drive is currently one-way.

STORRS, CT – University of Connecticut officials are advising people to plan ahead if they will be driving on the Storrs campus in the coming days for events, work or to help their children or friends move out of the residence halls.

Almost 13,000 students live in UConn’s residence halls in Storrs, which will be emptying out this week as they complete the semester with final exams and graduating seniors prepare for Commencement Weekend.

Traffic is expected to be heavy around all residence halls, particularly at week’s end.

In addition, temporary modifications, including limiting Alumni Drive to one-way traffic, will be in place today through May 10, UConn officials said. Detours will be posted, and parking will be allowed in the northbound lane, closest to the buildings, for loading of vehicles only, UConn officials said.

The changes are necessary as students move out of the Hilltop Residence Halls while, at the same time, UConn accommodates construction of the new Next Gen Hall dorm nearby, UConn officials explained.

People who use Alumni Drive on a regular basis, and those who were considering using it as an entry point to campus for Commencement ceremonies, are asked to seek alternate routes to help reduce congestion, UConn officials said.

Access to the UConn Alumni Center will only be available entering from the intersection of Alumni Drive and Hillside Road.
