WEATHER UPDATE: Heavy Snow, Ice Hitting Mansfield Today

The National Weather Service’s Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 a.m. Tuesday.

In a storm that already dumped several inches of snow on the area overnight, the heavy snow is expected to pick up to a rate of one to three inches an hour Monday afternoon.

The heavy snow also could be mixed with sleet and freezing rain.

The National Weather Service says 10 to 14 inches of snow is expected by the time the storm winds down. Winds up to 15 mph with gusts of 35 mph also are forecast.

The snow is expected to end about 8 p.m.

• This Afternoon: Snow and sleet, becoming all snow after 2pm. High near 24. Wind chill values as low as zero. North wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of 6 to 10 inches possible.
• Tonight: A chance of snow, mainly before 10pm. Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 2. Wind chill values as low as -11. Northwest wind 10 to 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
• Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 20. Wind chill values as low as -12. West wind 6 to 10 mph.
• Tuesday Night: A slight chance of snow showers after 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 9. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
• Wednesday: A chance of snow showers, mainly between 1pm and 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 34. Light and variable wind becoming southwest 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
• Wednesday Night: A chance of snow showers, mainly after 10pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 21. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
• Thursday: A chance of snow showers before 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 25. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
• Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 0.
