William 'Bill' Newsome, 88; World War II Veteran; Storrs Resident Who Retired from CL and P

William βBillβ Newsome, 88, of Storrs, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 19, 2015.
One of 6 children, Bill was born on July 2, 1927 to the late John and Lillian (Rankin) Newsome in Providence, RI.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served in World War II as an Electriciansβ Mate Third Class aboard the USS Tortuga. Bill retired after 31 years from CL&P (Willimantic and Mystic stations). Bill loved watching the N.Y. Yankees and enjoyed his summers at the lake cabin.
Bill was a devoted and loving husband for over 65 years to his wife, Wanda M. (Homiski) Newsome, who survives him. He is also survived by his 4 daughters Shirley Dazy (Mike) Surette of Willimantic, Nancy Bessette of Preston, Cindy (Don) Hartley of Stonington, and Lisa (Jeff) Ward of Storrs, his 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, many friends, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his siblings, Florence βFloβ, Mary βMaeβ, Lillian βDillβ, Helen, and John, and his only son, William βBillyβ Newsome (in 2011).

Calling hours will be Saturday, July 25 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic, CT. Private burial with military honors will be at St. Josephβs Cemetery in Windham at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to VFW Post #3263, 60 Stonington Road, Mystic, CT 06355.
