Willimantic Fire: Thick Smoke Shoots Out Of Building (Watch)

WILLIMANTIC, CT — Local police and firefighters are responding to "a large fire" at at a waste paper company in Willimantic, officials said on Facebook. The blaze broke out on Sunday morning at the Willimantic Waste Paper Co. on 1590 West Street.

Roads are closed from the intersection of state Route 32 and state Route 66 to the town line, police said.

"The air quality in the area is poor due to a large amount of smoke, we urge everyone to stay clear of the area and for residents in the area to please stay indoors," police said.

Heavy flames and thick, black smoke could be seen coming from the building. The cause of the blaze wasn't immediately known.
