MERIDEN, CT — A fourth person has been arrested in connection with a street takeover incident in Meriden last month, according to police.

Police responded to the Lowe’s Outlet Store at 1201 East Main St. around 11 p.m. on May 6 on the report of many cars gathering unlawfully in the parking lot, according to officials.

“As Officers arrived on scene in marked cruisers, one individual waiving a flag representing the country of Mexico, signaled to a group of approximate 30 to 40 individuals to come towards him,” police wrote in a news release. “This group swarmed an Officer in a marked cruiser, preventing him from being able to drive in any direction. Numerous parties were seen and heard on the cruiser dash camera screaming obscenities, displaying the middle finger, recording the Officer, provoking fellow rioters, making obscene sexual gestures, among other crude and tumultuous activities. As the Officer was attempting to disperse the crowd, several parties jumped on the hood of the marked cruiser and proceeded to stomp and jump, causing a felonious amount of damage to city property.

“The rioters blocked additional Officers from being able to assist in dispersing the unlawful crowd/taking enforcement. The Officer was forced to back up from the area as the crowd advanced toward the Officer, continuing their unlawful behaviors. In working with our local, state, and federal partner, a collaborative effort was made to identify these rioters.”

Selyah Rivera, 18, of New Britain, was arrested Monday on a warrant. Rivera, who police said was seen on video in the crowd participating in the incident, was charged with first-degree riot, second-degree breach of peace, interfering with police, unlawful assembly, and first-degree criminal trespass. She was held in lieu of a $25,000 bond.
