BRIDGEPORT, CT — A 25-year-old Meriden man was killed, and a woman injured, in a shooting early Saturday on Bridgeport’s West Side, according to police.
Police said Jerome Roshaun Alexander was found with a gunshot wound outside a bar near the intersection of Beechwood Avenue and Howard Avenue shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday. He was taken by ambulance to St. Vincent’s Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
"Mr. Alexander had just left the establishment when multiple persons outside opened fire, and he was struck," wrote Bridgeport Police Det. Jeffrey A. Holtz in a statement. "A 32-year-old Bridgeport woman sitting in parked car on Howard Avenue was also hit by a bullet. She was immediately taken to Bridgeport Hospital by the driver of that car and treated for a minor wound to her shoulder."
Alexander was originally from Bridgeport and had recently moved to Meriden, police said. His death is the city’s second homicide of 2026.
Detectives continued investigating the shootings into Saturday morning. The Major Crime Unit closed the intersection overnight while processing the scene. Streets reopened around 6 a.m.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact lead homicide Det. Laura Azevedo-Rasuk at 203-581-5235.
