Avon High School Hires New Principal

The school district has chosen a new leader for the school.

AVON, CT - Avon Public Schools recently announced that Michael Renkawitz will serve as the new principal of Avon High School. Renkawitz has been principal of Thompson Brook School in Avon for 13 years.

“With his administrative experience, both inside and outside of Avon, he possesses the skills to create a positive culture of stability and to engage all AHS stakeholders in realizing our common vision of an excellent educational experience for all of our children,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Bridget Heston Carnemolla.

Renkawitz has more than 25 years' experience in education, including teaching at the sixth-grade level and serving as an assistant principal and a principal at Ware Middle School in Massachusetts. He has also worked in West Hartford and possess graduate-level degrees in education administration, teaching and business. To sign up for free Avon news alerts and more, click here.

"While I have thoroughly enjoyed the students, staff, and families during my time at Thompson Brook, I am honored to begin a new chapter in my career at Avon High School," Renkawitz said in a statement. "I look forward to the opportunities and the new experiences that being our high school principal will bring."

A search for a principal at Thompson Brook School will now begin. Rita Peretto, retired assistant principal at Thompson Brook School, will serve as Interim Principal while the search is underway.
