Blood Donations Sought for Meriden Boy with CVID

People who have common variable immune deficiency (CVID) are at an elevated risk for infections.

MERIDEN, CT — Six-year-old Meriden boy Jeshua Lopez lives with a condition called common variable immune deficiency, or CVID, which makes him particularly susceptible to infections.

To treat the condition, Jeshua needs regular doses of white blood cells, or immunoglobulin from human blood plasma, but it takes a lot of blood to produce the amounts he needs, reports the Meriden Record-Journal.

A blood drive has been established to help Jeshua, which will be held this Saturday, Aug. 6, at the First Christian Charismatic Church, 224 Cook Ave. in Meriden. The blood drive is in conjunction with the American Red Cross and will run from 10 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
