R-J selling HQ

In an article in the Friday the 13th edition of the Record-Journal publisher
Eliot White announced that due to the set-up and dysfunction of the papers' HQ building at 11 Crown Street - the structure is going to be placed up for sale.

He mentioned that if it could be refurbished to be more efficient to present day publishing needs that might be an option. However, reading between the lines and knowing the state of the daily newspaper situation - I believe that they really want to sell the place.

Of late, several newspapers around the country have suspended their paper issues of reduced the content and use the Ineernet to get out the news. The R-J does publish its full paper issue on the Internet - so they would not have to change much if a decision was made to suspend hard copy editions.

It will be interesting to see what develops in this scenario - many dislike the R-J for different reasons and would not care if they do go all digital or are scoffed up by another news group and become some sort of regional entity.

Just another sign of the times - keep on reading the Patch for updates.
