Hello, friends! This is Juliana from Juliana’s Art Full of Love inviting you to take a turn through my latest series: "Old Man and the Sea". I created a museum-like exhibit in my gallery that is located inside JC Music in Meriden, along with their in-store shop, Jurassic Trees! This is a really unique collaboration of the arts.&nbsp; You can find the ancient living art of bonsai trees, my own art that never dies… and quality music lessons all under one roof! My new collection consists of twelve new paintings along with four I brought back from the archives.&nbsp; The art for this display was inspired by a piece of music and two movies.&nbsp; A little factoid about me, I like to add up my numbers ‘til they can’t go any further.&nbsp; Numerology, a little quirk of mine.&nbsp; One song plus two movies makes a three, and three is my favorite number.&nbsp; For those of you who don’t know, three means harmony and perfect balance in Japan.&nbsp; I’m having a lot of fun with this, and I’d like to think my brother would be proud of me… since he’s very knowledgeable about Japanese culture. The piece of music that inspired me, Mozart’s Violin Concerto number three in G Major, was actually played in one of the movies, Master and Commander.&nbsp; Great movie, and I love the piece.&nbsp; The other movie is The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, which was an Academy Award Nominee in 1942.&nbsp; If you haven’t seen it, I encourage you to check it out. I started off with a profile painting of the captain… “Old Man and the Sea.”&nbsp; I wanted the flavor of him being dressed in his best, preparing to go out into danger, excitement, and wonder.&nbsp; The unknown. Next I painted a chair from the 1800’s that I acquired from an estate cleanout.&nbsp; I thought the scroll on top of the chair looked like a crown, and every captain should want his own throne to rest upon! That’s why this painting is called “Captain’s Rest”.&nbsp; Think about it.&nbsp; You would have to be a little arrogant and egotistical to want to sail out in dangerous waters like the Drake Passage… which inspired my next piece, “Where Courage Sails”.&nbsp; Most ships didn’t survive these waters by the tip of Cape Horn and Chile. Many that have reflected on the journey probably believed that “Only the Wind Lasts Forever”.&nbsp; The waves will crash on the shore and there will never be an identical wave again.&nbsp; You can trace your name in the sand, but it will wash away in a heartbeat.&nbsp; The wind, on the other hand: the wind is always blowing somewhere.&nbsp; After such a harrowing journey, the captain may feel inclined to bring his mates to shore for some cheer, relaxation, and good rum while staring out at the “Bonnie Blue”. Soon it would be time to “Sail On” to discover more adventure and prizes, perhaps on a “Pirate Island”? Before turning in at night, the men hoped to glimpse a red sky for the sign of a safe tomorrow, “Sailor’s Delight”.&nbsp; But storms to come would make it hard to find their “Last Hope”.&nbsp; At last “In the Bay”, the crew would think of restocking their supplies once they made it back “On the Shore”. The captain would have so many “Memories” to think back on later in life, like the “Red Sands” of distant beaches, and the “Stranger on the Shore” he left behind.&nbsp; He leaves her with his love, a letter, and the promise, “Until Tomorrow”, before he goes “Sailing” into the blue.
