Car Stolen In Meriden Recovered In Middletown, Suspect Arrested

A woman was arrested after police say she was found driving a car that was reported stolen last month when she went through a stop sign.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — A Cromwell woman was arrested after police say she was found driving a car that was stolen out of Meriden when she went through a stop sign Tuesday in Middletown. At about 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 7, police saw a Toyota Prius go through a stop sign at the intersection of Pearl Street and Liberty Street at an “extremely high rate of speed,” according to the police report.

Police caught up to the car and while speaking to the driver, Quintina Yvonne Calero-Mendoza, it was confirmed that it was reported stolen on July 17 by Meriden Police.

Meriden Police said that Calero-Mendoza had been staying with the victim and his girlfriend in Meriden and one day he woke up to find that Calero-Mendoza was gone, along with his vehicle and keys, according to the police report.

Calero-Mendoza, 36, was arrested on charges of third-degree larceny and failure to obey a stop sign. She was held on a $20,000 bond and assigned a court date of Aug. 18.
