Cops: Two Meriden Men Tailed Unmarked Cruiser, Confronted Cops with Brass Knuckles

A very bizarre story out of Meriden.

In what is described as a bizarre incident, two Meriden men were arrested after they allegedly tailed police in a vehicle and then started a confrontation.

It started on Monday around 4 p.m. when Meriden detectives were assisting another law enforcement agency in an attempt to find a missing person in South Meriden, said Sgt. Darin Mckay, police spokesman. Detectives were in unmarked police vehicles.

A vehicle pulled up to a police vehicle and occupants appeared to eyeball it for a short time, Mckay said. The vehicle then drove away. The detectives later noticed that the vehicle was following them.

The detectives turned onto a dead end road in order to see if the vehicle would still follow.

They began to turn around when one of the men got out of the vehicle and attempted to blocked the road, he said. The other man got out of the vehicle and had brass knuckles.

At that point the detectives got out of the car, identified themselves as police and detained the men.

Mckay said it’s possible that the men had mistaken the detective’s vehicle for someone else’s.

Officers arrested Deondre Taylor, 20 and Lennon Powell, 21. They were both charged with disorderly conduct and Taylor was charged with carrying a dangerous weapon (brass knuckles).
