A man was charged after his dog, who was found to be in "horrible" condition, was left outside in frigid temperatures, according to a report

MERIDEN, CT — A Meriden man is due in court next week to answer to an animal cruelty charge in which police say he left his elderly dog, who was in “horrible” condition, outside in temperatures of around 16 degrees on Friday, according to the Meriden Record-Journal.

The Record-Journal reports Tyrone Gaston, 55, of Putnam Street, was arrested after police found his 14-year-old dog outside dehydrated and emaciated at about 3:30 a.m. The dog, who was found to have cancer and other issues, was euthanized at the recommendation of a veterinarian, according to the Record-Journal.

Gaston is due in court on Feb. 9, according to state judicial records.
