On Friday, December 2nd, at 7:30 P.M. THE MORGANS, one of the Northeast's most popular and enduring folk bands, will be performing "A Celtic Christmas” concert in Meriden. The 1st Congregational Church, at 62 Colony Street, will again be the site of this year's festivities.
As in past years, the concert will feature THE MORGANS' toe-tapping, hand-clapping set of seasonal selections from Ireland and the British Isles, along with some sea chanteys and a few seasonal sing-a-longs. The seating for the concert will be cabaret-style in Smith Hall, with light refreshments provided along with lots of fun raffle prizes.
In addition to their extensive repertoire of Irish and folk music, The Morgans have an affinity for things nautical. Their presentation of sea chanteys (work songs), done in powerful multi-part harmonies, punctuated by the primal sound of bodhrans (traditional Celtic frame drums), recalls the days of wooden ships and iron men.
Instrumentally, they play a variety of traditional, conventional and non-conventional instruments from the wind, string and percussion families.
