Feds Indict 2 New Haven Men in Armed Meriden Carjacking

The incident is alleged to have occurred on Jan. 1 of this year, according to prosecutors.

MERIDEN, CT - Two New Haven men were indicted recently on federal carjacking charges in connection with an armed carjacking in Meriden on Jan. 1 of this year, announced United States Attorney Deirdre M. Daly.

Indicted were Elbert Llorrens, 23, and Kyle Valentine, 24, on charges of taking a motor vehicle from a person by force and violence or by intimidation. Llorrens received two counts and Valentine one count.

According to Daly and the indictment, the pair "used a firearm and threats of violence to steal a 2015 Volkswagon Passat from two victims in Meriden" on Jan. 1. On Jan. 5, Llorrens is alleged to have again used a firearm and threats of violence to steal a 2006 Chevy Cobalt from a victim in New Haven.

The charge carries a maximum potential prison term of 15 years.

The indictment occurred in early April but was unsealed Wednesday when the two, who had been in state custody, appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert A. Richardson in Hartford and pleaded not guilty to the charges. They remain in custody.

This matter is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the East Haven, Meriden, Milford and New Haven Police Departments. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Douglas P. Morabito.
