Man Shot, Car Stolen During Assault: Meriden Police
The man was hospitalized after being shot while his car was being stolen, according to police.
MERIDEN, CT — A man was shot while his car was being stolen early Wednesday morning in Meriden, according to police.
Police received several calls around 1:30 a.m. on Sept. 27 reporting shots fired on St. Casimer Drive. One caller reported that someone had been shot in the leg, according to police.
Arriving officers found one victim with a gunshot wound to his leg, rendered first aid and secured the scene, police said.

The victim was taken to Mid-State Medical Center and then to Hartford Hospital with injuries that weren’t life-threatening, according to police.
Police said the victim’s car had been stolen during the assault. A suspect was identified later in the day and detectives were actively trying to find him, according to police.

“With the assistance of the Vernon Police Department, Manchester Police Department, and the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force, the suspect was located in Vernon,” police wrote in a news release. “He was located in the victim’s stolen motor vehicle. Located inside of the vehicle was a firearm and illegal narcotics. The suspect is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing a firearm.”
The suspect was arrested by Vernon police on charges in connection with the stolen vehicle, illegal firearm and narcotics, according to Meriden police.
Police said Meriden detectives are continuing to investigate and are working with the Vernon Police Department and New Haven State’s Attorney Office to secure an arrest warrant for the suspect in connection with the shooting incident on St. Casimer Drive.
“At this time, the name of the suspect is not being released, to keep the integrity of the active investigation intact,” police wrote in the news release. “All information leads investigators to believe the individuals involved know each other and this is not a random incident. As soon as the investigation allows, more information will be released.”
