Meriden Councilor Scarpati Announces Run for Mayor
Scarpati has been endorsed by the Democratic Party.

Meriden City Councilor Kevin Scarpati announced that he would be running for mayor.
Scarpati was elected as a Republican to the council, then registered as an unaffiliated voter and was endorsed by the Democratic Party, according to the Record-Journal.
Scarpati said he is running for mayor due to a lack of collaboration from the city’s chief elected official.

Mayor Manny Santos and the city council have butted heads on numerous occasions. One of the most prominent example is over the matter of the corporation counsel appointment, which went all the way to the state Supreme Court to be decided.
Scarpati is a life-long Meriden resident and was elected to office as a member of the Meriden Board of Education in 2009 and to the City Council in 2011, according to his biography on his campaign page.
