Meriden City Councilor Arrested At Courthouse

A Meriden city councilor is facing charges related to a protest at the courthouse.

MERIDEN, CT - A Meriden man was arrested Thursday afternoon on charges that he allegedly assaulted two judicial marshals in the course of a protest. Police charged Angel Castro, 49, with assault on a public safety officer and first-degree rioting.

The Meriden Record-Journal reported that the individual is Miguel Castro, a Meriden city councilor.

Police said that two judicial marshals were attempting to move a crowd of 15-20 people who were protesting at Meriden Superior Court. Castro physically assaulted the two judicial marshals while they were attempting to disperse the crowd, according to police.

He was released on a $5,000 bond and will appear in Meriden Superior Court Dec. 27.
