Meriden Man Sentenced In Drug Trafficking Case

A Meriden man was charged with transporting heroin and cocaine via the postal service.

MERIDEN, CT - A Meriden man was sentenced today for playing a role in a heroin and cocaine trafficking ring. Justin Doherty, 25, was sentenced to three years in prison on one count of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute controlled substances.

In October 2016, law enforcement intercepted two parcels containing suspected narcotics en route from Southern California to Meriden. An investigation found that the boxes contained 6.5 kilograms of cocaine and 1.06 kilograms of heroin.

Two other individuals were also implicated in the case. Jose Davila, of Meriden, pleaded guilty to the same charges and awaits sentencing. The third person is awaiting trial.

Doherty has been imprisoned since May 22, when his bond was revoked.

The case was investigated by the federal Drug Enforcement Administration, the U.S. Postal Service and local police.
