Meriden Men Charged With Drag Racing On Route 15: State Police
State Troopers disrupted an illegal race in an area that is notorious for drag racing, according to police.

MERIDEN, CT — Two Meriden men have been arrested on warrants in connection to a drag racing incident on Route 15 over the summer, according to state police.
Alexis Burgos, 23, of Elm Street, and Efren Santaigo, 30, of Bartlett Street, turned themselves in on Oct. 6, according to police.
The arrests stem from a June 10 incident, in which state police disrupted an attempted street race on Route 15 North near I-691 in Meriden. The area is notorious for drag racing, according to State Police spokeswoman Kelly Grant.

At about 12:30 a.m. on June 10, state troopers on patrol in the area of Route 15 North near I-691 in Meriden observed several vehicles setting up for a race, including a camera set-up on a tripod on an overpass, according to Grant.
Police attempted to stop one of the vehicles but the vehicles fled at a high rate of speed and state trooper did not pursue them, Grant said. However, one of the vehicles struck a police cruiser and disabled both vehicles.

Grant said the driver and passenger of the fleeing vehicle were immediately picked up by another vehicle and driven from the scene.
Police located both suspects shortly thereafter at MidState Medical Center in Meriden being treated for minor injuries.

Burgos was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree assault, interfering with an officer, illegal racing on highway, evading responsibility, reckless driving and operating motor vehicle with registration/license refused/suspended/revoked. He was held on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 19.

Santiago was charged with interfering with an officer, speeding for wager or speed record and operating a motor vehicle with registration/license refused/suspended/revoked. He was held on a $7,500 bond and is due in court on Oct. 20.
