Meriden Police Host Citizen's Academy Graduation This Week

The Meriden Police Department's Citizen's Academy is a 12-week community policing program.

MERIDEN, CT — The Meriden Police Department will host a graduation ceremony on Wednesday for its citizen’s police academy.

The Meriden Police Department’s Citizen’s Academy is a 12-week, Community Policing program. The academy class has been meeting at the police department every Wednesday for three hours per session since early January, and over the past 12 weeks, the topics of discussion have included, but were not limited to:

  • A history of policing
  • Police training requirements
  • Use of Force
  • Laws of Arrest
  • Community Policing
  • Gangs
  • Motor Vehicle Stops
  • Criminal Investigations
  • Technology in Policing
  • SWAT & Special Operations

"The class of approximately 40 people consisted of citizens ranging in age from 18 to 75 years old," wrote Meriden police in a statement. "The objective of this academy was to help our citizens better understand how the police department operates."
