Meriden Police Host Mock Motorcycle Crash Training
Officers from various departments around the state will participate in the hands-on demonstration.
MERIDEN, CT - The Meriden Police Department will host a mock motorcycle training class on Friday morning for officers from around the state, organizers announced.
The hands-on demonstration will be led by Dale E. Smith of the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, an expert in accident investigations involving motorcycles. Smith has been conducting classroom instruction during the week, but the course moves outside to the Police Academy (P.O.S.T.), located on Preston Avenue in Meriden for Friday's mock accident drill.
Officers will have the opportunity to apply all the instruction they learned during the week at the mock drill. Danby’s Auto Service of Meriden is providing a motorcycle and a motor vehicle which will be utilized in the mock training scenario. The motorcycle will be cabled to an SUV and pulled to a speed of approximately 30 m.p.h. and will then "crash" into a stationary vehicle for the drill.
